                                     How To Tack Up A Horse

Horse tack is a device used for riding a pony. If you are new to horse riding, here are some tips to understand the perfect method to make your pet ready for a ride:

Tie up: Crossties is the commonly used method. But, there can also be other alternatives as well. If you are using a lead rope, it is better to ensure that you tie a quick release knot.

Groom the animal: Before actually tying, it is better to groom the animal with a brush so that she can prepare herself for a ride. During this process, check for any lumps or swelling in her body or whether her body is hot. When these things are present, this is not the right time to take her for a ride. It is better to take her to a veterinary doctor for treatment.

Bridle or saddle: If you wish to bridle your pony first, tie a head-collar around the neck of your pony. If you wish to saddle first, leave it on her face so that she cannot run away.

Put on the saddle cloth/blanket or pad: Place the front portion of the cloth on the withers of the animal and do this a bit higher than the normal. Here, do not forget to slide it down so that the hair do not push down in an unnatural manner.

Placement of saddle: Gently, place the saddle on the back of the horse and ensure that it is placed in the middle of the saddle pad. Here, do ensure that it does not interfere with the shoulder of the pony.

Clinch or girth: Some horses experience bloating. If your's too has the problem, it is better to tighten the clinch or girth gradually on either side, when she exhales. This will protect her from bloating, but tighten it again before mounting. Make her to move a step or two forward and backward so that you can ensure the tightness of the clinch.

Cross ties: The next step to be done is to unbuckle the cross ties and then put the reins over the head of the horse. This will ensure that you can have complete control over the animal.

Put the bit in the mouth: By placing your finger on both sides of the bit, gently push it against the mouth of the horse. When doing this, you can put your thumbs in the corner of the mouth, where there is no teeth.
